Staff Development

Your staff already care. What they need is a different kind of understanding.

Hutch-in-Mind offers professional development for schools that moves beyond neurodiversity awareness into real change in classroom practice, not just theory.

Most schools already have staff who want to do right by their neurodivergent learners. The intention is there. What’s usually missing is an understanding of how neurodivergence actually shows up in a lesson, a corridor, an assessment, or a parent meeting. That’s the gap Hutch-in-Mind closes.

Jason Hutchison is a fellow educator, not an outside consultant. He’s taught in diverse classrooms, led subject teams, managed curriculum at a senior level, and run an online school’s academic programme. He knows how South African schools are built and where the pressure sits.

Every programme is built around your school’s specific context, taking your learners, your staff and your curriculum pressures into consideration. Staff leave with concrete strategies for the next lesson, clearer language for talking about neurodivergent learners, and a real understanding of what inclusion looks like in their setting.

How we work together

Half-day workshop

A focused session of three to four hours. Suited to a staff briefing, a single PD slot, or introducing neurodiversity-affirming practice.

Full-day workshop

A full school day of deeper skills-building across the whole staff body, with space for both understanding and hands-on application.

Multi-day extended programme

Two or more days, scoped to your school. Built for a whole-school culture shift or a phased rollout, not a once-off intervention.

School-parent evening

A facilitated session for parents of neurodivergent learners. Bridges the gap between what the school is doing and what families need to understand and support at home.

All formats are available in person or online.

Travel costs for in-person sessions outside the local area are quoted separately.

Professional Recognition

Hutch-in-Mind programmes are developed with SACE accreditation in progress.

Accredited programmes will contribute to teachers’ Continuing Professional Teacher Development points.

Let’s talk about your school.

Every engagement starts with a conversation. Tell Jason about your staff, your learners, and what you’re trying to change, and he’ll tell you what he can build for you.
